Are you losing the fight against Legionella?

Legionella has been a growing issue in the water treatment industry over the past 2 decades, but it’s the most recent activity that brings Legionella and the control of it under the tense scrutiny. Legionella Control International issued an article on their website discussing the recent outbreaks in 2015 and 2016 stating:

“The first significant case of Legionnaires’ disease in 2015 was seen in New York City, where 12 residents in the Bronx were affected. Cooling towers were suspected to have been the cause in this case. Elsewhere, Valencia in Spain was the site of an outbreak in March, and Boldon, UK was reported to have been the site of five cases of the disease in April. Orlando in Florida also experienced a case that same month, when a hotel was being investigated as part of an outbreak that saw three former guests fall ill. Further cases occurred throughout the summer, in New York City, Christchurch in New Zealand and Lacey in Washington, USA. New York City was affected once again in a major outbreak in July, when 120 people contracted the disease, leading to 12 deaths. A cooling tower was once again found to be a source of the Legionella bacteria.”

Due to these outbreaks, the City and Counties in New York have adopted strict procedures for the treatment, testing and disinfecting of cooling towers registered in their areas.  Although these procedures are specific for the New York areas, the industry buzz is that this will soon be the protocol for all cooling towers nationwide.

WATERTECH, Inc. has been working with customers on a Legionella testing, prevention and disinfecting program for many years.  From working with hospitals in meeting their JACO standard requirements, to helping large commercial and industrial accounts with the proper procedures for effectively removing the threat of Legionella, WATERTECH can help your company develop a program that will better prepare you for the unyielding requirements that will most certainly come your way.  Utilizing WATERTECH’s new WATERSMARTRX program, our customers have the assurance that their systems are being monitored and controlled by the latest in technological advances with instant and online accessibility for fast and efficient service.
